According to my light I guess though people embraced this style of newly revived trend, we have to rethink about its artistic quality. So the limitation of Mega- teledramas to a series of hundred episodes may be a step to maintain its artistic value.
Because when there are long dragging episodes, it is doubtful the fact that how that particular teledrama retains its artistic quality. And at the same time that will become a barrier for the other newly emerging Mega- teledramas. Because there should be an opportunity to the others directors who brings out different themes. But the audience will refuse other themes since they have that much addicted to the beauty of the present Mega-teledramas trend.
Further when it comes to the themes of Mega -teledramas, it seems that they are mostly connected with our daily life and romantic love. And also sometimes there are unrealistic facts seem to be presented in a realistic manner. On the other hand it is obvious that the story line of the Mega-teledramas touch romance and youth. Then sometimes there is not any other aspect other than love. But still such story lines survive. And when we look at "Bonda Meedum" it is a production based on a novel which is a mere sentimental love story. And even "Itin Eeta Passe" can also be depicted as a mere sentimental love story.
Then the newly arrived Mega-teledramas such as "Angana", "SihinaWilak","Apeksha" seem also
to be connected with the concept of love though the story line appears to be different. But though we see love every where in the teledramas, the audience seems to enjoy its taste with high spirits deprived of age limits.

If we want to be amusable, we would prefer to watch a funny movie,a funny video, funny cartoons or we crack a joke usually. Isn't it ?
Then if you refresh your memory, how many times did we amuse and chuckle while watching Mega-teledramas?It may be countless.Because almost all the comic characters of those teledramas made us cheerful but some times annoying due to silly jokes. Then both romantic ideals and comic aspects add more colour to the teledrama. Further the directors of Mega-dramas have employed the comic characters in a subtle manner it seems. But that effort also may be an attempt to convince us the fact that such comic characters may exist among us.Some how those comic characters entertained the audience with laughter.
So when we look at the character of"Mervin" in "Paba" teledrama, how funny is it to remind his expressions! It's really funny when he blends English words with the Sinhala jargon in a funny way in expressing his ideas.Such words can be depicted as "wenda bena" , "mops karanawa","kickma thama" and his extreme fear towards his own father is really funny but sometimes it is unbearable. So the character of Mervin can be depicted as irresponsible, cunning and a foolish man.Any way even his behaviour made audience funny. Not only that some of them even got used to imitate his amusing expressions.More over his behaviour added more colour to the teledrama. And in a way his role also provided some value to the audience.
Since the audience is stressed and overloaded with their daily chores, they would always expect such type of an entertainment. So the audience never missed any chance of watching even a single episode in order to get rid of their stressed minds. Then they also enjoyed their dialogues even months or years had been passed, after the telecast. And if we remind of another example from the Mega-teledrama, "Pabalu", what would come to our mind. Its "Bena Mama"........I'm pretty sure that the audience will get a laughter to their mouth.Because the way he walks and the way in which he talks made us laughter.
The people seemed eassily pray upon the traps of uncle Bena. So uncle Bena or "Bena Mama" can be known as a shrewd person and further he commits cunning acts for his own benefit. Any way when we deal with daily activities we may meet figures like "Bena".So we can conclude on the fact that Mega-teledramas are a mere representation of our daily routine sometimes.

This would bring a flash back of a series of "Sinhala Mega-teledramas" that you enjoyed interestingly through out last few years. This form of art was flourished in the Sri Lankan context as a consequence of kind of a delicious recipe provided for the appetite of the Sri Lankan audience. This effort was successfully overcame by our teledrama directors and actors.
They identified the taste of the Sri Lankan audience and that resulted in appearing Mega-teledramas on our screen with Sri Lankan colouring .Specially the people representing the ordinary class embraced this style with love.So there's no doubt that the actors of the each and every Mega-tele-drama won the hearts of the audience. Then when we refresh our memory about Mega-teledrama "Paba", I do not imagine of anyone who deny it.Deprived of age limits, the people continued to enjoy its story line. But of course there were many who considered them to be unimportant. Then what so ever it seems that people got addicted to this form of art within a short period of time
.Moreover it seems that Sri Lakan teledrama directors have imitated the style of Indian Mega-teledramas to a great extent in order to bring about the justice to the audience. So I'm pretty sure they did it and we tasted its value.
The character of "Paba","Amantha"and "Mervin" became more popular among people. The sarcastic expressions of "Mervin" added humour to the teledrama while the love story of "Paba" and" Amantha" painted it to be colourful and exciting. Then when it comes to the love story of "Sansala" and Danuka" in the Mega-teledrama "Bonda Meedum", the audience got an haunting experience of romantic love.Actually the youngsters experienced sentimental love through this teledrama .Most of the story lines seemed to be powerful enough to communicate with the feelings of the audience. So more frequently almost all the youngsters responded to this style it seems .That's why no one bothered about spending many hours in front of the television.Because the teledrama tempted them that much.
Further with the influence of the Mega-teledrama,s the actors and the actresses began even to popular with their character names. Then with this trend a horrible competition was begun among television channels. They brought out various teledramas in their channels along with various quiz competitions in order to attract the audience. So this essay marks the arrival of typically Sri Lankan Mega-teledramas and its popularity.

Then the Indian tradition and themes seem to boost their tastes.Even they used to imitate Indian fashions and their culture. The audience began to live in world of teledramas. As a consequence there was a strong bond between them and the teledramas. Sometimes the audience was impatient until the next day comes to meet their favourite characters. They were emotionally attached to the story outline.Specially when we consider about women it is crystal clear that the women were attracted mostly towards this new tradition. They used to follow their designs and fashions with a high admiration. It was an addiction and its taste matched the passion of women.Because normally they are buried with the house hold chores and then they found solace in watching a mega-teledrama.
But with this trend there were tragic outcomes as well. There was a collapse in the Sri Lankan film and teledrama industry. So the directors, religious leaders and actors raised against the newly arrived form of art. Some of them criticized it harshly and some of them were totally against this new revival.Because some critics defined them as a money minded earning path which do not pay any attention on its quality. But its style and then its content touched the hearts of the ordinary people. The reason may be because they sought just the entertainment in what they watch but not its literary value.
However a set of laws were implemented in order to secure the Sri Lankan identity. Then financial barriers were put upon Indian Mega-teledramas .Because our actors and actresses seem to loose their identity in the film industry.Even the Sri Lankan audience embraced Indian actors and actresses without any hesitation. So the actors even began to question about the artistic quality in this form of dramas .Because though those mega teledramas were consisted of unrealistic facts and fancies, the audience praised its fantasy.

The art of "Mega-teledramas" came to light recent past with the attraction of the majority of Sri Lankan audience.Because so called "Mega teledramas" or " multi-episode teledramas" became one of the main mode of entertainment among the people inadvertantly. "Shanthi, Sujatha, Pragathi, Praveena and Mahagedara" give rise to the memory of mega-teledramas in the Sri Lankan teledrama history. Those Indian teledramas were long dragging multi episode teledramas .And then of course it was the first hand haunting experience of mega-teledramas to the Sri Lankan audience.Because it was a transition of teledramas from once a week telecast to a daily telecast. So the audience began to meet their favourite characters daily and gradually it became a part of their life. The Indian tradition overpowered the Sri Lankan tradition, customs, ways and this trend reached the pinnacle of success within a short period of time. Then I hope this will be a review of what we enjoyed in past with curiosity and temptation!
